Bab III: Menyatakan Seseorang Tidak ada

Perhatikan percakapan di bawah ini:

Anda : Electronic City. Good afternoon.
(Electronic City. Selamat sore)
Penelepon : Can I speak to Mr Makole, please?
(Bisa tolong bicara dengan Pak Makole?)
Anda : I’m sorry, but Mr Makole is in a meeting.
Can I take a message?
(Maaf, tetapi Pak Makole sedang rapat. Ada pesan?)
Penelepon : No, it’s all right. What time will he be free?
(Tidak, gak apa apa. Kapan dia tidak sibuk?)
Anda : At 3 o’clock.
(Jam 3)
Penelepon : Could you tell him I called. It’s Mr Rony.
Tolong beritahu dia saya menelepon. Ini Pak Rony)

Catatan: Kata certainly berarti Ya dan merupakan jawaban yang sangat ramah.

Sekarang perhatikan Pola-pola untuk menyatakan seseorang sedang tidak berada di tempat.

Anda menerima telepon, sedang orang yang dicari tidak ada

Anda katakan:

I’m sorry Mr. Makole’s away on business at the moment.
(Maaf Pak Makole sedang pergi ada urusan sekarang)
I’m afraid Miss Runi’s on a business trip at present
(Saya rasa Nona Runi sedang pergi ada urusan sekarang)
I’m terribly sorry the Manager’s in Singapore right now
(Saya sangat menyesal Manajer sedang berada di Singapura sekarang)
Oh, what a pity (Aduh, sayang sekali):
he’s out of town just now (dia Keluar kota barusan)

Anda menjawab

He said he’d be back next week (Dia bilang dia akan kembali minggu depan)
I think he’ll be back tomorrow ((Saya rasa dia akan kembali
besok)
She should be back this afternoon (Dia seharusnya kembali Sore ini)
He’ll probably be back at 4 o’clock (Dia mungkin kembali pada jam 4)
She’ll be back at 5.00 p.m (Dia akan kembali pada jam 5 sore)

Untuk menanyakan pesan yang ingin disampaikan kepada penelepon, Anda mengatakan:

Can I take a message? (Ada pesan yang dapat saya sampaikan?)
May I take a message? (Ada pesan?)
Would you like to leave a message? (Anda ingin meninggalkan pesan?)
Can I ask her to call you? (Bisa saya memintanya menelepon Anda?)
Can I give him a message? (Boleh saya sampaikan pesan padanya?)

Penelepon

No, thank you. I’ll call back later. (Tidak, terima-kasih. Saya akan meneleponnya kembali nanti)
Yes, would you let him know that I called? This is Togi. (Ya, bisa tolong beritahu dia bahwa saya menelepon. Ini Togi)

Anda menjawab:

Catatan:

1. Untuk menulis pesan dari penelepon, ada empat unsur yang biasnya disebut:

– Nama orang yang diberi pesan.
– Tanggal.
– Waktu menerima pesan.
– Isi pesan
– Nama orang yang menerima pesan.

2. Kita dapat menggunakan singkatan untuk nama orang (penelepon, penerima atau siapapun) asal nama itu sudah lazim dikenal atau familiar. Contoh: CR (Cut Raudhah)
Akan tetapi, sebaiknya nama penelepon disebutkan secara secara lengkap.

3. Tahun biasanya tidak perlu disebutkan dalam formulir pesan yang menyatakan tanggal.

4. Sebaiknya penerima pesan menuliskan no telepon penelepon, kecuali kalau kita menganggap si penerima pesan sudah mengenal atau familiar dengan si penelepon atau tidak ada permintaan untuk menelepon balik.

Contoh formulis pesan: A

Date : 7/2
Time : 10.35 a.m.
Message : Please call Mr Makole of Electronic City
475 34 23 a.s.a.p. URGENT.

Catatan: a.s.a.p. merupakan singkatan dari ‘as soon as possible'(Secepat mungkin)
